Hanneke van Ryswyk is a Welsh-Dutch artist living in Wexford, Ireland with her partner and baby boy. Hanneke has held six Irish solo exhibitions since moving to Ireland in 2011 and has been selected for exhibitions at the Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin (RHA), VISUAL, Carlow, The Model, Sligo, The Lavit Gallery, Cork, Bridget McDonnell Gallery, Melbourne and Somerset House, London and most recently Terra Nostra, curated by Karla Sanchez, Wexford County Council.
She has been awarded residencies at Cill Rialaig, The Tyrone Guthrie Centre, by Coracle at Kultivera, Tranås, Sweden and a Visual Arts Bursary by Artlinks in 2014. Her work can be found in the Irish Office of Public Works collection.
Hanneke’s abstract paintings are small, imaginative and atmospheric with suggestions of clouds, islands, volcanos, icebergs and mountains. Hanneke’s painting process involves working in numerous thin layers. Her paintings have intricate textures from repeated sanding and scoring of the surface and are illuminated with colour.
