Sam Vicary creates small scenes in her paintings; sometimes in the form of still lives inspired by artefacts and collections. She examines the personality of chosen objects, placing them in groups that tell a story. Often there’s a fine balance between life and memory. For her, making work is about showing the ‘struggle’. She leaves behind the physical process of drawing, continually over-painting and rejecting marks and colours.
